CONTRACTORS have been appointed to deliver a range of attractive improvements to Main Street in Egremont.
Thomas Armstong Ltd, of Maryport, will start the work in mid-April and should finish by the end of June.
Copeland Borough Council, working with Egremont Town Council, is commissioning upgrades including new benches, bus shelters and planters, and the refurbishment of some existing street furniture.
The improvements have been funded by Copeland council, Sellafield Ltd, and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The work will include new street furniture and the refurbishment of existing furniture at the entrance to West Lakes Academy and the Ehen Court Road junction with Main Street. The scheme has been designed by landscape architects at Groundwork.
The items will be maintained by Egremont Town Council, which is also donating a new bench outside the Meeting Place to remember those lost to, and affected by, the Covid pandemic.
On the corner of Ehen Court Road and Main Street, residents will see new planting beds, seating and trees to create a pleasant and shaded communal area.
At the area adjacent to the West Lakes Academy entrance contractors will install modern benches, repair paving, remove or cut back trees and overgrowth, and replant existing raised beds.
There will also be:
- Environmentally friendly planting on the roofs of the bus shelters
- New planters with permanent planting and seasonal bedding
- Shot-blasted and freshly painted bollards
- Replacement cycle stands plus the repainting of an existing cycle stand
Sustainability is a key feature of the scheme – greenery will be added and where appropriate existing street furniture will be refurbished to extend its life.
