MORE than 100 people attended Whitehaven’s first Warm Wellness Hub of 2023.
The weekly event takes place at the United Reformed Church from 10am until 2pm.
Residents can get a free hot meal and enjoy craft workshops.
Anyone is welcome, and Copeland’s Social Prescribing team and local community organisations are on hand to offer health and wellbeing advice, and signpost to services.
This initiative is being delivered in partnership with Rosehill Theatre, Groundworks and the NHS, to help alleviate some of the problems caused by the high cost of living.
Andy Pratt, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Place and Inclusive Communities, said: “People can expect a friendly welcome and can come along on their own, or with a friend, and talk to others over a hot meal.
“They can get practical tips and advice on managing energy costs and keeping safe and warm at home as well as improving health and wellbeing.
“Since we started the initiative in October, we’ve guided residents with issues including homelessness, financial hardship and energy saving measures.
“We’ve also signposted residents to organisations providing low level mental health support and welfare and benefits advice.
“Although many of our regular attendees are just looking for a warm space to socialise, which helps combat loneliness and isolation, others access the support available at the sessions to improve their health and mental and financial wellbeing.
“There’s something for everyone at the warm wellness hub which is enjoyed by more and more people each week.”
Copeland Council also runs a warm hub at Millom Guide Hall on Tuesdays from 10am to 2pm.
