Half term fun is on the cards at Distington Walled Garden, as we are to host a Harvest Festival.
On Saturday, October 29, the garden will host 14 local traders under a marquee – selling everything from cocktails and candles, to jams and antiques.
Guests can sample the artisan treats on offer, buy hot food and drinks, and enjoy the surroundings of the newly restored garden.
For those wanting to practice their artistic side, there will be two craft competitions. Visitors can make scarecrows and carve pumpkins to decorate the festival, for the chance to win a cash prize.
Competition entries should be placed in the garden from Monday to Friday on the week of the festival (October 24 to October 28) - the gates will be open daily from 8am until 4pm, and entry forms will be available in the garden’s bungalow.
Councillor Andy Pratt, Copeland’s Portfolio Holder for Parks and Open Spaces, said: “We were thrilled at the success of the summer fete earlier this year, so it’s brilliant to be using the space again.
“The walled garden proved itself as a great venue for events. We’re excited to get the public involved with the craft competitions and build support for our local traders.”
“Distington Walled Garden has been transformed by volunteers over the past year, and we’re incredibly grateful for their support.
“They have planted a lavender maze, filled raised beds with plants, and created a peaceful space for reflection.
“We’re always looking for more helpers, so the harvest festival is a great opportunity to come and find out more about our volunteering opportunities.”
