Council marks Baby Loss Awareness Week

Published: 06/10/2022

COPELAND Council is marking Baby Loss Awareness Week with a special tree in its Chapel of Remembrance.

Residents are invited to place a tag on the tree with a personal message, during the national awareness week which is held from October 9 to 15.

The tree will then be planted in a dedicated garden in the grounds of Distington Hall Crematorium.

Remembrance candles will be available to light in the chapel between October 10 and 14.

The chapel also has a memorial book for anyone who has been touched by the loss of a baby to write their tributes in.

Andy Pratt, Portfolio Holder for Bereavement Services, said: “We hope to provide comfort to those affected by baby loss, during this important time.

“Our remembrance tree gives residents the opportunity to remember lost, and very much loved, little ones.

“The tree will be planted in our dedicated garden providing a special place for years to come.”

The Chapel of Remembrance at Distington Hall Crematorium is open from 9am until 4pm every day.
