COPELAND’S residents enjoyed a friendly welcome today (Monday) at the borough’s first Warm Wellness Hub.
The hub, run by Copeland Borough Council, provides a place for people to socialise during the autumn and winter months, enjoy a free hot meal, and get crafty.
The sessions run every Monday from 10am to 2pm at Whitehaven’s United Reformed Church.
Sessions will also start at Millom Guide Hall on October 11 and will run every Tuesday.
Anyone is welcome, and Copeland’s Social Prescribing team and local community organisations are on hand to offer health and wellbeing advice, and signpost to services.
Marie Parry, Kells, visited the session this morning and said: “We’re enjoying the session, it’s nice to talk to someone. I’m going to bring my daughter next time.”
Deborah Matthews, Frizington, said: “I’m really enjoying it and I’ll make it a regular thing. I’m looking forward to the crafts this afternoon.”
Emma Williamson, Social Inclusion and Community Resilience Team Leader at Copeland Borough Council, said: “I’m really pleased with today’s turnout. We’ve had a steady stream of people all enjoying a warm drink and a hot meal.
“It’s great to see everyone chatting together, and I’d like to thank all the community organisations that have joined us to promote their health and wellbeing services.
“Social isolation is an issue in the community, and the cost-of-living crisis will only make things worse.
“We’re incredibly proud to offer residents a place to go each week, to get them out of the house, be warm and well-fed.
“The sessions are for everyone, and we’d encourage anyone who is looking for some company and to enjoy some food and crafts, to come along in future.”
This initiative is being delivered in partnership with Rosehill Theatre, Groundworks and the NHS, to help alleviate some of the problems caused by the high cost of living.
