An employment skills programme has helped people on the autism spectrum to prepare for work.
The programme helped nine people to develop essential work-related skills such as communication, problem solving and teamwork.
Candidates took part in a range of activities, gaining the confidence to move forward into employment.
The four-day programme was led by All Together Cumbria and supported by the Copeland Work and Skills Partnership (CWSP), hosted by Copeland Borough Council.
It was also supported by Inspira, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Kaefer, Tiny Wild Fox and Rosehill Theatre.
Participants visited the Morgan Sindall Infrastructure offices to listen to a talk on neurodiversity at work. This was delivered by Terri Hargreaves, a Human Resources Advisor (Diversity & Inclusion) from Sellafield Ltd.
Copeland’s Mayor, Mike Starkie, said: “This is a fantastic step in encouraging local industries to engage with residents who have autism, and ensure they have access to the right support.”
Nicola Gorrill, Social Impact Manager at All Together Cumbria, said: “I was delighted with how well our partners came together to deliver sessions.
“Our candidates developed the skills and confidence to support their journey to employment.”
The Copeland Work and Skills Partnership Programme is jointly funded by Copeland Community Fund and Sellafield Ltd.
