EIGHT Copeland residents have successfully completed a collaborative training course preparing them for work in the health and social care sector.
Our Work and Skills Partnership (CWSP) ran the programme, alongside Wyndham Manor Care Home in Cleator Moor.
Eight unemployed residents were enrolled in a series of training sessions and employability skills workshops. The course concluded with interviews for positions at Wyndham Manor Care Home.
Those involved were educated about dignity in care, dementia and stress awareness and health and safety in the workplace. These courses were delivered by Inspira and a level one awareness course on first aid for mental health was provided by Better Bodies Ltd.
Participants were identified and referred by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Lakes College Restart Programme. They were supported with applications and progression routes by Inspira and Lakes College.
Sue Edwards, Manager at Wyndham Manor Care Home, said: “The programme has helped us identify some good quality candidates who will fill key roles in our business.
The candidates have been able to have a clear insight what it is like to work at Wyndham Manor and have had the benefit of care sector related training as part of the process. We have really enjoyed taking part.”
Angela, one of the participants said: “I thought the programme was very beneficial, I learnt a lot from it and it helped to build my confidence for the interview.”
The CWSP is jointly funded by the Copeland Community Fund and Sellafield Ltd. Sector development is a key workstream within the programme.
The CWSP also offers specific bespoke support to key sectors, wage subsidies, apprenticeship subsides.
