COPELAND Council can offer safety for those suffering homelessness or domestic abuse this Christmas.
The specialist team there wants people to come forward as early as possible to access support if they might be at risk.
In the last year, the Housing team helped 195 people, at risk of becoming homeless, to find new accommodation, or supported them to stay in their own home.
Another 122 people, already homeless when they approached the council, were found temporary accommodation until permanent homes could be found.
Copeland's Portfolio Holder for Housing, Coun Andy Pratt, said: “While most of us are lucky enough to enjoy a safe Christmas, for some it can trigger the risk of relationship breakdowns, abuse and, ultimately, having to leave their homes.
"We want people to know that we are here for them in emergencies, right through the Christmas period and always.
"Our Housing team are experts in helping people during these crises – and the sooner they can intervene, the better. So please, let us know if you are at risk from these issues and might need a safe place to stay."
The council’s Housing Options team provides 24-hour advice and support for emergency cases of domestic abuse support, and homelessness. Residents can contact the team by email at housing.options@copeland.gov.uk or call 01946 598300.
