Young Entrepreneurs Market set to launch

Published: 08/06/2021

MORE than a dozen young entrepreneurs will be setting out their stall at Copeland’s first youth market on Saturday.

King Street in Whitehaven will host the newly-launched Young Entrepreneurs Market from 10am to 3pm, with stalls selling everything from homemade candles and crafts to cakes, cards and clothing.

Copeland Council has organised the event and is offering young entrepreneurs aged 25 or under a free stall.

Jenny Brumby, Copeland Council’s Business Liaison Officer, said: “This is a first for Copeland and it promises to be an exciting event.

“Young entrepreneurs have a place to show off their talents and sell their wares, and shoppers can support the businesses of tomorrow by visiting the market and we’re sure they will be tempted to a purchase or two!”

All the stalls will be set out in a Covid-safe environment, with a one-way system in place for shoppers.

Copeland Council carried out a public survey into its future market offering last year and attracted over 600 responses. The Young Entrepreneurs Market - launched on a trial basis - is first of many new concepts to emerge from the public consultation.

Pitches are still available. They are free for those aged 25 and under, and a small number are available at a reduced rate for those aged over 25. For more information, email jenny.brumby@copeland.gov.uk.

To support the youth market, Copeland Council is reminding residents that it has introduced an app to allow people to pay for their parking by phone.

The MiPermit system is available in all the council's pay and display car parks (listed at www.copeland.gov.uk/car-parks). The app is free and available to download from app stores.
