Joseph Ghayouba has been elected to represent the Whitehaven Central ward on Copeland Borough Council.
The votes cast for each candidate in the by-election on Thursday, May 6 were:
William Robert Clive Spencer Dixon - Conservative Party - 542
William Robert Dixon - Heritage Party: Free Speech and Liberty - 45
Richard Ian William Donnan – Independent - 90
Joseph Ghayouba - Labour Party - 633
Mike Minogue - Liberal Democrats - 18
The turnout was 29.9 per cent.
Councillor Ghayouba said: "I am delighted that residents of Whitehaven Central have put their trust in me and I intend to be a strong voice for them on Copeland Council."
