Garden waste collections return

Published: 02/03/2021

COPELAND Borough Council’s garden waste collections are to restart – and they will be fortnightly once again.

The collections are always suspended in the winter months, but last year they also became monthly, to help ease the intense pressure on waste collections caused by the pandemic.

But from March 22, the collections will be fortnightly as usual.

Coun Steven Morgan, Copeland’s Portfolio Holder for Waste, said: “We know people missed their green bin collection when it became monthly, and we are really grateful for their patience during that time – it allowed us to concentrate our stretched resources on household waste collections.

“Although our service does continue to be challenged by the pandemic, we wanted to enter spring with fortnightly green collections as part of – fingers crossed – a gradual return to normal service.”

The council will no longer be sending out paper copies of collection calendars. Coun Morgan said: “Everyone’s calendar, including collections for waste, recycling and garden waste, is easily available online.

“It will always be up to date and is portable and printable. It is also much better for the environment and provides better value for money for the taxpayer.”

The council said anyone who was unable to access their calendar digitally, or print one off, would be able to call and get a printed copy.
