COPELAND Council is in search of the borough’s best kept garden.
The Council is urging residents to showcase their outdoor spaces for a chance of winning a £50 voucher to be spent in a local Garden Centre.
Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “Over the last three months, many residents have turned to gardening as a way to keep busy and take their mind off the current pandemic.
“Gardens all around Copeland are currently flourishing, with flowers in full bloom, due to the early summer and some spending extra time at home during lockdown.
“From the more experienced green fingered residents, to those who have picked up a trowel for the first time in lockdown, we’re encouraging everyone to get involved and send us a picture of your own piece of paradise.
“Our fantastic Parks and Open Spaces team, who are responsible for maintaining 982,346 meter squared, of Copeland’s outdoor spaces, will be helping to judge the competition.
“So, if you know your begonia from your bergenia, and you’ve spent your time weeding your beds and pruning your foliage, it’s time to share your creative masterpiece.”
Residents can submit their garden photos, along with their name, address, contact number and email address to communications@copeland.gov.uk. Alternatively they can send images and contact details via the Council’s facebook page www.facebook.com/Copelandboroughcouncil.
Residents can also put forward others in the borough by providing pictures of the nominated garden and contact details for themselves and the person/s they are nominating.
The Council has launched its best kept garden competition in line with its successful Pride of Place campaign. The campaign has been key to the borough’s significant reduction in fly-tipping and littering over the past two years, in contrast to other boroughs in the county.
Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, launched the Copeland Pride of Place campaign in January 2018 to highlight everything that is positive in the borough and to shine a light on those individuals who disrespect our communities through vandalism, fly-tipping, dog fouling and littering.
