Rising star in Copeland’s ranks

Published: 28/05/2020

MITCHELL McCombe, Copeland Council’s Nuclear Sector Development Officer, has been elected the prestigious position of co-chair of the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Futures Forum.

The Cumbria LEP Futures Forum, which was set up in January 2020, aims to make sure that the views of young people seriously influence Cumbria’s economic strategy and investment decisions. The Forum is made up of 16 young professionals, aged 18 to 35, from across Cumbria.

Mitchell’s successful application to the role of co-chair focused on making sure the Forum is a delivery-focused group which supports key priorities that unlock economic growth for Cumbria. Priorities include clean energy, promoting Cumbria and engaging with key players in the industry.

Mitchell, who joined Copeland in late 2018, has already shown early signs of excellence having completed a Project Management Qualification since his arrival.

Mitchell said: “I’m delighted to be appointed Co-Chair of Cumbria LEP’s Futures Forum.

“It’s a great opportunity for younger generations to be able to have a say on the key decisions on Cumbria’s economic strategy.

“I look forward to working with members of the Forum, Cumbria LEP, and other public and private sector bodies.

“Now, more than ever, everyone across Cumbria needs to work together to reboot our economy and the Forum will do all it can to support those opportunities.”

Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “It’s fantastic to see one of our youngest members of the organisation taking-up every development opportunity that comes his way.

“Mitchell is a fantastic example of the kind of person we want on our team, a committed and dynamic individual, willing to go that extra-mile.

“His new position as co-chair is a credit to his hard work and dedication, and I wish him the best of luck in the role.”
