Gold status for excellence in data management

Published: 13/05/2020

COPELAND Council has won a Gold Award for excellence in management of address information.

The Council has been awarded the gold standard in recognition of the way it manages its address information database.

The accolade was presented at the virtual GeoPlace Exemplar Awards 2020 on April 29.

The Gold Award is only given to authorities that have consistently reached and maintained the highest standards in national tests on data excellence, supplying regular updates to the national street data hub.

Currently, Coronavirus is imposing massive demands on the public sector, and accurate addressing enables the prompt provision of support for vulnerable people, enabling social services to see which households need help.

Without this data, and the work of Copeland Council’s Strategic Planning and GIS teams, our nation’s most essential services could not operate effectively or efficiently. The awards highlight the team’s roles in this task, rewarding impressive and extensive personal commitment to constantly improving the quality of addressing data.

Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “I’d like to commend the Strategic Planning and GIS teams on the amount of hard work and dedication that has gone into being awarded this accolade.

“It is critical at a time like this that our data is all present and correct, as this informs vital services, and is particularly crucial for vulnerable people in our communities who may need support during the current pandemic.”
