COPELAND Council launched its housing strategy today (Friday) setting out its ambitions for the future.
The pillar document highlights the priorities for the Council, and partners, over the next five years.
Copeland Council has set out its housing vision as: “Together we well sustain and grow our local economy and housing market by delivering the right mix of homes, in the right places, to address the changing needs of Copeland’s population, businesses and services.
“We will build truly sustainable communities and places where everyone can benefit, contribute, and live a better life in Copeland.
The key themes of the strategy, which aims to marry growth and investment in the borough with the needs of residents, are housing for people, place and investment.
The document was launched by Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, at a Copeland Housing Partnership meeting held at the Beacon Portal, Whitehaven.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Copeland Council, housing developers, social housing providers and third sector partners.
Mr Starkie said: “This strategy aligns the Council’s housing ambitions with our economic growth and social inclusion priorities; ensuring that Copeland’s housing offer delivers an outstanding quality of life and economic prosperity, in a world class environment for all our residents.
“We are looking to build new homes to suit all types of occupiers on an unprecedented scale.
“We are looking to revitalise our town centres including our older housing market and to capture locally the wealth being generated so that all our residents can share in opportunities and prosperity.
“Access to a good home is vitally important to all our lives, throughout our lives - from the moment we start and as we develop, through ongoing health and well-being, economic prosperity, security and crucially, to finding a place to call home.
“I’d like to personally thank our housing team and the partners that have supported the creation of the strategy which will support Copeland in becoming a better place to live, work and visit.”
