COPELAND Council is urging residents to return their Household Enquiry Forms.
Every property in Copeland is sent the form and residents have a legal requirement to return it.
Householders can complete their form online or return their form in person, or by post - the deadline for responding is August 18.
The purpose of the form is to certify that each eligible adult in the household is registered to vote.
All households are required to return this form by law, even if there has not been a change in circumstances.
If residents fail to respond it will affect their right to vote in future elections. It may also affect their ability to open a bank account, get credit, a loan or mortgage as the electoral register is checked by credit agencies. A fine of up to £1,000 may also be incurred.
Residents can complete their form online at www.elecreg.co.uk/copeland.
Forms can also be returned to Copeland Borough Council, Market Hall, Market Place, Whitehaven, CA28 7JG. Residents can return their forms in person at our Market Hall or St George’s Road, Millom, offices.
