COPELAND MP Trudy Harrison has said Copeland Council apprentices are "a credit" to the borough.
The MP, who is the Government’s Apprentice Ambassador for the North West, met up with staff as part of marking National Apprenticeships Week (March 4 - 8).
She said: "National Apprenticeship week brought a wonderful opportunity to meet Copeland Borough Council’s superb apprentices. I met apprentices from across six departments, on different courses, who were all so enthusiastic about their work and the benefits of apprenticeships. They are a credit to Copeland and I really do commend the council for their modern approach to securing skills for the future.’
Mrs Harrison spoke to the apprentices about their roles and studies, and discussed with Mayor Mike Starkie and the benefits to an organisation of taking on apprentices.
Mr Starkie said: "I'm proud to say apprentices are talented and motivated - we are lucky to have them as part of our team at Copeland. From our point of view, it makes enormous sense to be able to train people from scratch for specific roles, creating a pipeline of talent. They also bring their own skills and enthusiasm, so it is a win-win situation for us all."
