COPELAND Copeland Borough Council will soon restart its garden waste collection service.
The service, suspended during the winter months, will begin again in the week beginning Monday March 18.
The fortnightly collections are for grass, leaves and clippings – you can get a full list of what can and can’t be put in your garden bin at www.copeland.gov.uk.
Residents will also find their waste collection calendar there, detailing exactly which date their collection is due on. (Please note, some calendars may show a collection in the week beginning March 11 - residents should disregard this.)
Householders should make sure their bin is put out before 7am on the day of collection.
Coun Mark Holliday, portfolio holder for customers and communities, said: “Using our green waste collections is a good way of saving space in your black bin, and making sure the garden waste is dealt with in an environmentally-friendly way.
"If you can't compost your green waste at home, this is the next best thing. Our green waste goes to a local company to be made into high-quality compost so I want to ask everyone not to put anything in there other than grass, leaves, clippings and twigs. Anything else will contaminate the waste and could mean that an entire load gets rejected, costing the taxpayer in time, transport costs and the loss of recycling credits."
New waste calendars will be issued from March 13 onwards, but calendars are always available at www.copeland.gov.uk in the My Property section. On the website residents can also find out about home composting and discounted food digesters.
