Copeland celebrates National Recycling Week

Published: 18/09/2018

COPELAND Borough Council is running its popular 'recycling roadshows' to celebrate National Recycling Week.

Council staff will be getting out to events in Millom and Whitehaven to update people on the kerbside scheme, answer all their questions and get their feedback on how they recycle.

Copeland began the new scheme, which collects card and plastic as well as paper, glass and metal, in April. More than 96 per cent of homes in Copeland are served by the kerbside service.

Copeland's portfolio holder for Customers and Communities, Coun Mark Holliday, said: "People are really embracing the kerbside collection scheme and we're delighted to see how much people are recycling. National Recycling Week is the perfect time to get out into the community again and talk about recycling. We hope lots of people will come and have a chat, tells us their views and have their questions answered."

The council will be inviting people to fill in a short survey about their recycling habits. There will also be recycling-related giveaways, information to take home and examples of what materials can and can't be recycled at the kerbside.

The events are:

*Wednesday September 26, 2pm, at the Millom Pensioners' Hall (Tin Chapel), Mainsgate Road
*Thursday September 27, Whitehaven Market, from 10am.
