CREATIVE school pupils have joined the fight against irresponsible dog-owners in Copeland.
Children from schools across the borough have taken part in a ‘design a poster’ competition to encourage dog owners to pick up after their pets.
Copeland Council held the contest as part of its Pride of Place campaign and the five winning posters will be used in the press, on social media and distributed around the area to raise awareness of the issue.
The winners have been named as:
- Pippa Newby, from St Bridget’s School in Egremont
- Morven Marshall-Madan, from Gosforth School
- Tia Lofthouse, from Kells Infant School in Whitehaven
- Lara Mianta, from St Patrick’s School in Cleator Moor
- Charlotte Pollard, from Waberthwaite School
All the winners were presented with their prizes by Mike Starkie, the Mayor of Copeland, and have received a stationary set and a family pass to The Beacon Museum’s Brick Dinos exhibition.
Mr Starkie said: “We had some wonderful entries into our competition and it shows the passion that our younger generations have for this issue, and their local area.
“It was a pleasure to visit the schools to meet the children and their teachers and I’d like to thank everyone for taking the time to get involved in our campaign.
“All the winners used colourful and creative ways to get their message across. Dog-fouling is universally despised and hopefully their work goes a long way to encourage the small number of people who don’t respect our beautiful area to show more responsibility.”
