Residents in the south of Copeland will get a chance to find out more about a brand new recycling service this weekend.
Copeland Council will be at the Millom Pensioners' Hall, Mainsgate, from 10am until noon on Saturday, January 20 to answer questions about the new kerbside service, which begins in April.
The new collections will take paper, metal, glass, card and plastic in one vehicle. Residents will be given three new plastic boxes for metal, glass and plastics, plus a weighted bag for card.
At the Millom event residents can get a look at the new bags and containers, and find out more. Waste staff will be on hand to explain exactly what can and can't be recycled and how the new rounds will work. There will also be some recycling-themed goodies to give away.
Coun Mark Holliday, Copeland's portfolio holder for customers and communities, said: "We've got plenty to tell people about this exciting new service, which will affect around 95 per cent of properties - so it would be great to see people come and join us at this information event in Millom.
"Lots of people are already recycling and many are looking forward to these improvements. The additional collection of card and plastic at the kerbside will make it much easier, especially for those who struggle to get to the recycling 'bring' sites."
When the scheme starts there will be four new vehicles (expanded from the previous fleet of three) and an extra crew of three people. The new lorries can collect five different materials and store them separately, ensuring the best value when the materials are sold. Residents will be given three boxes - a green one for glass, a black one for metals and plastic, and a blue one for paper - plus a white weighted bag for card.
In the coming weeks the council will tell residents exactly when their new containers will be delivered. Collection day calendars will also be distributed.
