THERE are just a few days left to become part of the Copeland Big Switch - possibly making huge savings on energy bills.
Ten per cent of Copeland residents are in fuel poverty, so Copeland Borough Council is keen to help by offering this group buying scheme. It brings residents together to exert collective buying power, getting the best deal from the energy companies.
This current scheme closes at midnight on October 9, so residents should express an interest soon to be part of the savings. They will need their annual usage statement or latest energy bill to hand. It's free to sign up and residents will then be sent an individual offer, telling them how much they could save. There is no obligation to take up the offer to switch.
Copeland’s portfolio holder for energy, David Moore, said: “Fuel is an increasing cost, particularly for those on lower incomes. Ten per cent of people in Copeland are in fuel poverty and we want to help them - and everyone else - get the best deal available. Winter is not far away and people should not have to worry about whether they are getting the best energy price."
Although there is no guarantee of saving money, most people will be offered savings of some degree. The amount saved will vary depending on consumption, current deal and the winning bid. The process is designed to ensure the majority of participants are offered savings.
