A SERIES of public meetings organised by Copeland Mayor Mike Starkie begins this week.
Mr Starkie will hold four events across the borough this month to give residents the chance to hear updates on a host of Copeland Council projects and to raise their own questions and issues.
A representative of West Cumbria Mining will also be in attendance to provide an update on the firm's plans to extract coking coal with a processing plant in Whitehaven, with the creation of over 500 jobs.
The meetings all start at 6pm and will take place on:
- Wednesday, September 6 - The Clock Tower, Millom
- Wednesday, September 13 - Egremont Rugby League Club
- Tuesday, September 19 - Cleator Moor Civic Hall
- Tuesday, September 26 - The Beacon Portal, Whitehaven
Mr Starkie said: "When I was elected as Mayor I made a pledge that the Council will be open and transparent, and be accountable to the public.
"I've always made public meetings a priority, and those that have been held in the past have been well attended with a number of interesting and challenging questions raised.
"I'd urge everyone to attend to raise and discuss the issues that are priorities for their neighbourhoods and home towns."
Following a presentation from Mr Starkie, the floor will be opened up for questions from the public. If you would like a question answered but prefer not to raise it in public, email it in advance tocommunications@copeland.gov.uk
