The Mayor of Copeland, Mike Starkie hosted the inaugural meeting of the Copeland Community Forum, giving every sector of life in the borough a voice.
Representatives from education, health, sport, police, media, charities, community groups, local business, and young people have been invited to form the Forum to focus on the issues that concern the people of Copeland and work together to improve the lives of residents and visitors to the area.
Chairing the first meeting, the Mayor said: “This initial meeting has been about getting to know each other, and take the first steps in looking at how we can work together to improve Copeland for all.
“We all represent different areas of life in Copeland, and one of the first tasks has been to set up a means of capturing the key issues of local people.
“Only by listening to local people can we deliver what they want as a council. The Community Forum is not just a unique focus group which can provide a voice for local people, it is also a group of people with specific local knowledge and skills with a passion to make things better. From supporting large scale events to focusing on how we can support our aging population.”
Actions taken from the first session include arranging a meeting with the Mayor and Youth Council Meeting of Mayor & Youth Council and John Rowlands Chair of the Mayor’s Business Network will attend next meeting to update the forum.
The date, time and venue of the next Forum meeting is to be confirmed.
