Fun free day helping out at Haig
Tuesday July 11 2015. For immediate release
The Haig Mining Museum in Whitehaven is hosting two fun volunteer days when people can get involved in sprucing up the museum’s surroundings.
The events have been organised as part of the Whitehaven Lengthsman scheme funded by Copeland Community Fund and Copeland Borough Council.
There are two sessions:
-
Wednesday August 19, 10am until 2pm
-
Wednesday August 26 from 10am until 2pm
at the Haig Museum on Solway Road in Whitehaven.
The sessions will focus on tidying up the areas around the museum, including jobs such as planting, weeding, litter picking and painting. People will need to bring their own small gardening tools. Plants, seeds, paint and brushes will be provided. Works4You staff will be doing the larger jobs such as cutting the grass prior to the event.
The two events are designed for locals to contribute to their community and support a local business whilst enhancing the environment. People will get the opportunity to work together and learn new skills on the day.
Museum manager Pamela Telford said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to get involved at Haig Pit. We are aiming to create a small memorial garden where people can come and reflect, as well as keeping an industrial feel. And we are looking forward to greeting new faces to join us.”
The volunteer days are open to everyone and are completely free. Refreshments and homemade cake will be provided but participants should bring a packed lunch or use the museum café for lunch.
For more information on the events, please contact either Pamela Telford on 01946 599949, email Pamela@haigpit.com or Sarah Moss-Luffrum at CBC on 01946 598398, email sarah.moss-luffrum@copeland.gov.uk.

This project has been funded by the Copeland Community Fund. The Fund was established to recognise the unique role the Copeland community plays in hosting the national Low Level Waste Repository close to the village of Drigg. The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority pays £1.5m a year into the fund for every year that the current operation vault receives waste; in addition to an initial endowment of £10 million. A board of directors representing Copeland Borough Council, Cumbria County Council, the NDA and the private sector manages the fund. For more information visit www.copelandcommunityfund.co.uk
