Three of Copeland’s beautiful beaches have won a sought-after Seaside Award.
St Bees, Silecroft and Haverigg – all managed by Copeland Borough Council – have been named as having the very highest standards for cleanliness and facilities.
The Seaside Awards are given out by Keep Britain Tidy and there are just 14 beaches in the whole of the north west of England that have achieved the quality mark.
It means the many visitors to St Bees, Silecroft and Haverigg can be sure these beaches are clean and safe and meet the highest environmental standards, as well as tough bathing water quality standards.
Julie Betteridge, Copeland Council’s director of customer and community services, said: “This is great news. Our staff and local community partners work hard to keep our amenity beaches safe and inviting for locals, holiday makers and day trippers. These awards mean people can come along to our stunning beaches knowing they are among the nation’s best.”
Keep Britain Tidy’s Paul Todd added: “It is great to celebrate another fantastic year for these awards.
“As an environmental charity, we are committed to improving the quality of the places where people live, work and holiday and these winners have proved their commitment to providing the best possible beaches for locals and visitors alike.
“The public can be sure, if they visit a Blue Flag or Seaside Award winning beach, that they are visiting one of the best beaches in the world.”
