COPELAND Council is offering an enhanced service to residents with larger gardens.
People can now opt to pay for a second garden waste bin to be collected from April 2015.
There will be an annual charge of £30 per extra bin. They will be collected fortnightly, alongside residents’ existing brown bin.
Coun Peter Kane, portfolio holder for the environment, said: “One garden bin is adequate for many people, especially if they already compost at home. But we think some people with larger gardens will appreciate the opportunity to have an extra binful collected.
“Unfortunately we can’t collect extra bins for free – there is a considerable cost to us in doing so – but we think £30 a year is a reasonable sum to have extra green waste collected, and we hope it will make things easier for the more green-fingered among us.”
As with existing brown bins, they will not be collected during the winter months of November, December, January and February.
It’s envisaged a lot of people who had two garden waste bins in the past will have kept the second one – we are happy to collect that one if they still have it.
However for anyone who needs to purchase a second bin, they are available to buy from the council at £30.
The council is asking people who would like a second bin (or more) to get in touch to find out more and arrange payment by calling 0845 054 8600.
These collections are for garden waste only. If any bins are found to contain household waste they will not be collected.
